Summary

I recently released a video of my 120 Shine TAS. I've finally completed the first Corona Mountain segment and entered the main part of the 120 Shine run.

At this point, I have 46 Shines and 120 blue coins (equivalent to 12 more Shines), which means I’ve reached about halfway through the total in terms of Shine count. So I thought this would be a good time to reflect.

Looking Back at the Whole Run

The Water Strider and Manta Rays were tough. This game really comes down to RNG in the end.

Cleaning segments were exhausting too, but thanks to my experience with Any%, it didn’t break me. I really felt how valuable full-game RTA experience is in moments like this.

Somehow, my work on the 20 Shine TAS I made back in 2015 is still proving useful. I’m really enjoying being able to apply everything I’ve done so far. This feels like the culmination of 9.5 years in RTA and 6 years and 5 months as a TASer.

Also, the fact that I completed everything after the Manta fight in just one month really surprised me. It felt like I spent two months on it.

In terms of rerecord density, this TAS has far more than Any%. And it’s not like I reused inputs entirely—I’ve updated almost every section compared to Any%.

The only segments where I didn’t improve movement (despite it overlapping with Any%) were:

Everything else saw improvements.

So even though I’ve been working at super speed, the quality has actually gone up—which is kind of weird. Breaking past the Manta segment and escaping the monotony of RNG manipulation felt great.

That’s enough general impressions. Let’s go over each Shine I’ve worked on so far.

Ricco 7

This one had a surprisingly tricky bit where I had to manipulate both the spider’s position and the initial RNG for the shotgun at the same time. Thankfully, I got a good pattern. If not, I would have had to handle RNG manipulation in Ricco 6, where there's less wiggle room—which definitely would’ve forced compromises.

Thank you, Sunshine gods.
